Soon Flash Memories Will Come In Molecular Size

Soon Flash Memories Will Come In Molecular Size

The first computer ever was a very primitive prototype which occupied a large space and provided minimal functionality. Back in the 19th century the term computer first surfaced by Charles Babbage, It was designed to aid navigational calculations had virtual no external memory support. Later the first digital computer ENIAC one, introduced memory concept to the world. It has memory of only a few bytes. Since then this trend has increased. The first external hard drives literally occupied a whole room and then the factor of compactness started affecting. Now the requirement is to have a large amount of storage space available in a drive which itself occupies less space. But recently a milestone has been achieved in this context. Scientists have been successful in their attempts to store data on a single molecule.

glass_molecule_mescaline_lg

This accomplishment has been made by a team of international researches who have integrated flash memory on a single molecule. To say, a single molecule, is a little bit of exaggeration. The whole concept is based on three molecules. Surprisingly the storage is based on the electrons, the other two molecules hole precisely these electrons. These two molecules reside inside a metal oxide molecular cage which is just a nanometer wide in dimension. The metal used in this experiment is tungsten from which the metal cage was made and the selenium trioxide molecules are used for holding the storage space electrons.

stock-footage-complex-molecule-structure-d-render

This technology is not going to appear in the market anytime soon. At the current moment, this research is just a prototype and has many improvements to come. Currently its practical applications are seeming a bit far- fetched. The second major factor to be kept in mind was its volatility. It is very important to ensure for how long this technique will be able to store data in the molecules. The researchers observed that the data could be stored for 336 hours successfully. But it did not last longer than that. The memory drives now able in the market not only ensure durability and security but they also provide standard data transfer rates. If this technology ever hits the market, It will have to improvise upon it data transfer functionality. Researchers say they can theoretically bring those speeds down to picoseconds or less.

test-molecule

The basic logic behind this technology is that when the two electron are removed from the structure, selenium trioxide molecule forms a bond with them. This in turn, creates a single molecule of Se2O6. In this process the charges are exchanged with the metal oxide cage. The molecule, this formed is stable up to very high temperature of about 600 degrees Celsius. This implies that it can be used with a variety of processing methods. To check the working of this setup the researchers coated a wire with a single layer of the caged molecules. They were able to conclude from the experiment that the resulting device could be injected with charges by applying a large negative voltage. If a smaller voltage is applied the presence of electrons could be read out. And with the application of large positive voltage the device will set to its original state.

Google will reach where none reached yet: Amit Singhal

Google will reach where none reached yet: Amit Singhal

Google search guru ‘Amit Singhal’ believes that the search engine of the future will be a ‘perfect personal assistant’- knowing what you want when you want it.”
-TOI.

Although people can travel you the moon’s surface without leaving their armchairs, search engine developments are so far just ‘baby steps’ to ‘the holy grail of search’, Singhal told AFP in a rare interview.
Google Logo
Singhal, age 44, has been of a kind of great contributor to internet since he joined Google as developer of Google Search Engine in 2000, you know well at the time when internet was limited to the Nano kind atmosphere and a whole lot of restrictions!

The “Google fellow”- the title thrown upon the top thinkers by California company believes that the world of “knowledge on demand” will endow slowly without being noticed when people will be served before they wish for; using the technology of speech recognition, touch remembrance, artificial intelligence of course!

The search engine of the future will be the “perfect personal assistant giving you the benefits of all technical knowledge, enhancing your thought process”, he said. Though some scientist fire their theories that this would actually create the world having peoples who have short attention spans, lazy minds and reduced capacity of information remembrance, Singhal doesn’t seem to be paying much heed to the thought.

“People always worry about change. We have to teach people to swim with the flow of technology, not against it,” he said.

“There were worries about Gutenberg printing press- that it would destroy the beauty of spoken words, but we are far better off with the knowledge it’s brought.”

“People worried TV would stop people reading books but that hasn’t happened.”

“The internet has made people more productive- removing barriers to getting information barriers,” he said.

Sticking to the data part, Google answers millions of question per day asked in more than 110 languages. Singhal’s vision has helped Google making it the most visited search engine, eventually the most profitable company around the Globe. “These are immensely exciting times” with search technology “going through an exponential period” of change, he said.

“Ultimately I believe that this will give mankind healthier, happier lives, not just through wearable technology, but the sum total of information that will be within our reach to improve lives.”

Upon being asked the inspiration source of this technological path to the future search engine, with a smile he said, “Star Trek.” Singhal exposed himself to the popular show during his childhood days in Uttrakhand. He was so serious about the show that he repeatedly watched them to learn dialogues by heart!

This show, has inspired his dream about the future where a computer like one of Starship Enterprise could provide any information immediately. He is a graduate form IIT and Cornell University. These stages of his life exactly provided him with the background he needed.

“I imagine a future where a starship computer would be able to answer any question I might ask, instantly.”

“We are closer to that dream than I ever thought possible during my working life,” he said, also stating that he was “blessed to do something I love.”

Singhal is currently the incharge of Google Algorithms, which decides how best to retrieve information and answer questions. His team tests thousands of algorithms every year; adjusting, tweaking and inventing. The key is ranking information, giving the most pertinent answer first. The more Google keeps its users happy, the more it stands apart and first from other search engines.

Sensor Activity

Just as USS Enterprise Captain James Kirk never had to type a question into the spaceship’s computer, asking it question aloud instead, and Singhal looks forward to do the same with better voice recognition.

Singhal was in New Delhi to announce launch of Google’s new Hindi Language content website.
Nearly all of India’s 198 million English speakers are already online and Google hopes the local language website will add 300 million more internet users.

Hendo Hoverboard put to the test by Tony Hawk

Hendo Hoverboard Tony Hawk
Stop dreaming of the future, it’s already here. Signifying this milestone in human existence is the hoverboard – and now skate legend Tony Hawk has been spotted riding one.

Following the recent unveiling of the Hendo Hoverboard –  a futuristic contraption which uses powerful electromagnets to float inches above the ground – Hawk popped across to the company’s facility in San Jose to make Marty McFly green with envy.

Although having released a spoof hoverboard video earlier in the year, the skater-turn-video game star has now got to grips with the real deal.

It’s kind of like riding a board with a mind of its own,” Hawk said of the Hendo Hoverboard following his brief step into the future.

Speaking with TMZ he added: “It would suddenly start moving and spinning when I had no control over it and there is absolutely no friction so it was a challenge.

“I only got to ride it for a total of about 15 minutes, but to be honest, it was a blast. I really want to go back and do it again.

“I would not say I was mastering it at all, but I learnt to ride it without falling every two seconds.”

The Hendo Hoverboard is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter. Having nearly doubled its $250,000 goal with 26 days of fundraising still to go, the Hendo will cost you a cool $10,000 to buy. For those after a quick play, a $100 pledge will secure you a five minute ride.

A metal sub straight in the company’s skate park flooring repels the hoverboard’s electromagnets, allowing the device to float.

As well as bringing Back to the Future style thrills, the technology has more practical applications

Nexus 6 UK release date confirmed for December 1

Nexus 6
The Nexus 6 UK release date is finally official, and you won’t have to wait too much longer to get your hands on the 6-inch Android 5.0 device.

Having been formally unveiled last month, the Nexus 6 has now been confirmed to be heading to British retailers from December 1.

Despite leaving less than two weeks until the handset will hit store shelves, high street seller Carphone Warehouse has already started accepting Nexus 6 pre-orders.

Pairing a 6-inch QHD display with a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM, the Nexus 6 specs sheet is further enhanced by a 13-megapixel, OIS-enhanced, rear-mounted camera. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rival is to be available in both blue and white colour schemes.

Sadly, unlike past Nexus handsets, the Nexus 6 isn’t going to be too light on your wallet. The 32GB iteration has been priced at £499 on a SIM-free deal.

Although cheaper than the similarly specced iPhone 6, this near-£500 asking price makes the handset £100 more expensive than the LG G3. Those looking to snap up the Nexus 6 on contract will need to sign up to a two year, £34.50 per month deal.

For those after more storage space – the Nexus 6 does not support microSD expansion – a 64GB edition is available for the princely sum of £549.

The Nexus 6 is the first device to come sporting Android 5.0 Lollipop direct from the box. Introducing Google’s new Material design UI, the software adds an improved Notifications system, 64-bit processor support and smarter lock screens.

Lava, Intex likely to launch Android One devices in early 2015 | Must Read ! | A www.ReviewRulezz.tk Report

Lava and Intex, among a new set of Indian handset makers on the Google's Android One programme, are likely to bring handsets based on the project early next year.

Rather than a single Android One device each - as was launched by Micromax, Karbonn and Spice on Monday - Lava and Intex are likely to roll out a range of devices simultaneously, which would offer different specifications such as larger screens and better camera quality at wider price points. "It will take us at least three to four months (to launch the devices)," said Intex's head for mobile phones Sanjay Kalirona.

The first Android One smartphones from the new set of local players will start shipping after January, said Lava International's cofounder and managing director, SN Rai. Lava owns the Xolo brand under which it sells smartphones, while the parent brand also sells feature phones apart from smartphones.

Lava and Xolo will be able to tap into their own design houses, in a way becoming original design manufacturers due to which they will be able to drive price optimisation much deeper through their systems, Rai added. In other words, they may well be able to offer devices with higher specifications at competitive prices. More details on the new smartphones are expected to be revealed in the coming months.

Lava is one of nine handset makers that Google's head of Android, Chrome and apps, Sundar Pichai, announced as new partners who will make smartphones under the Android One umbrella, Google's initiative to offer rich smartphone experience on low-cost devices with set hardware and software standards across handset makers. Lava is India's No. 4 smartphone vendor with a 6% share of the market as per IDC. Intex is a much smaller player.

Pichai said on Monday that Google has also signed up international smartphone makers Acer, Asus, HTC, Lenovo, Panasonic and Alcatel One Touch under the project to connect the next five billion people with the Internet and Internet-enabled devices. Going forward, he said, vendors will be free to choose among a set of specifications to make smartphones, allowing faster updates and better Android experience.

The new leg of home-bred handset makers are likely to follow the footsteps of Micromax, Karbonn and Spice that began selling the first Android One phones - Canvas A1, Sparkle V and Dream Uno - respectively, through Amazon, Snapdeal and Flipkart. Micromax had sold out its first lot of 20,000-22,000 on Amazon on day one.

Micromax, Karbonn and Spice, which hold about 30% of the smartphone market in India, will begin selling the phones offline across 200,000 retail outlets countrywide next month and train staff to educate customers about the devices. Spice Mobility's chairman, Dilip Modi, told ET that the company's Spice Hot Spot retail stores will be converted to Android One stores for pushing sales, a model that the newer players just might follow.

Google Android One smartphones launched in India, start at Rs 6399

The first three Android One smartphones are the Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream UNO | www.reviewrulezz.blogspot.in

Google has officially introduced the first range of Android One smartphones in India. The new smartphones are up for grabs via e-commerce sites from today, and will hit retail stores across India from early October. Prices of the new Android One smartphones start at Rs. 6399.

The first three Android One smartphones are the Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream UNO. The Karbonn Sparkle V (Magnum Blue, Mild Grey, Wild Red and Pearl White) is available online exclusively at Snapdeal; the Micromax Canvas A1 (Black, White) is available online exclusively at Amazon; and the Spice Dream UNO (Black, White) is available online exclusively at Flipkart.

The new Android One phones run the latest Android 4.4 KitKat and will receive the Android L release, which brings Google’s new material design, improved battery life, security features, and smarter notifications. In terms of hardware, the phones feature front- and rear-facing cameras, 1G of memory, quad-core MediaTek processor, long battery life as well as features particularly important to Indians, including dual SIM slots, a FM radio tuner, and a microSD card slot for additional storage. Airtel is offering a promotion to reduce data costs for those who buy Android One phones.  With an Airtel SIM card, Android One users will get free over-the-air (OTA) updates, and 200MB per month worth of app downloads from Google Play for the first six months.

Google also announced that in coming weeks much of YouTube will be available offline in India, meaning that people can store videos in the YouTube app when they are on WiFi and watch them later.

Sundar Pichai, Google Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome & Apps, said, “If we look at how people are getting online and accessing information today, increasingly it’s through a smartphone. While 1.75 billion people around the world already have a smartphone, the vast majority of the world’s population—over five billion more—do not. By working closely with phone and silicon chip makers to share reference designs and select components, we’re making it easier for our partners to build phones that are not just great to use, but also affordable. With Android One, we not only want to help people get online, we want to make sure that when they get there, they can tap into the wealth of information and knowledge the web holds for everyone.”

At today’s Google press conference, Pichai also announced an expanded set of hardware partners for the Android One initiative, including Acer, Alcatel Onetouch, ASUS, HTC, Intex, Lava, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Xolo, as well as chipmaker Qualcomm. Google also unveiled that Android One phones will launch in Indonesia, the Philippines, and additional countries in South Asia by the end of the year

Advantages of buying an Android One device | Google announced three Android One devices today and here's what you need to know in terms of the advantages that are connected with buying an Android One device | www.reviewrulezz.blogspot.com

Advantages of buying an Android One device

Google announced three Android One devices today and here's what you need to know in terms of the advantages that are connected with buying an Android One device.

At the Google I/O this year, the creator of Android had made an announcement that was especially interesting for Indians. It was the Android One, Google’s attempt to revolutionize the budget smartphone segment. Well, that attempt materialized today and as the company had said, Micromax, Spice and Karbonn were the first three manufacturers to come out with smartphones. The first three smartphones are,

- Micromax Canvas A1
- Karbonn Sparkle V5
- Spice Dream Uno

Spice Dream Uno (Left) and Karbonn Sparkle V5 (Right).

What is Android One?

Android One is a program from Google, where it gives manufacturers a set of device specifications to choose from. It is a means for manufacturers to provide a much better Android experience in inexpensive and easily affordable smartphones. Basically, you get a devices that is in a way certified by Google as the best Android can offer in the given price range.

Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Product Management, speaking at the Android One launch in Delhi.

What are the advantages?

- Better performance: The UI on these smartphones is very fluid, but more importantly, your things like navigation on Google Maps run more smoothly on Android One smartphones. Also, the first devices on Android One run on a ‘stock’ experience, which isn’t new, but the OS runs as smoothly as a Moto E. So, if manufacturers can come up with cheaper devices, it would mean Moto E level performance on a cheaper smartphone.
- Customizations for India: According to Google, the Google Translate feature has been updated for better Hindi translation. Also, Google Now understands the Indian accent better. The company said there will be other customizations for India as well.
- Updates: In Sunder Pichai’s own words, the Android One devices will be amongst the first to get the Android L updates. That’s not something you hear everyday for a phone that costs Rs. 6,399.
- Camera: In sub-10k smartphones, the camera has till now gone up to 8 MP. With Android One, Google has room for 5 MP, 8 MP and 13 MP shooters. While the prices will vary, it could mean that you can get a pretty amazing camera for a relatively low priced device.
- Build and Design: With Google providing the software and the ‘best specs’ list, manufacturers can concentrate on things like design and build. According to Cesar Sengupta, VP, Product Management, manufacturers will be coming up with different designs for Android One smartphones in future.
- Brand: For the brand conscious, Google has announced with three brands right now, but nine more are joining the fray soon. This includes names like Asus, HTC, Acer, Xolo, Panasonic, Lava, Intex, Alcatel and Lenovo. It would mean that each brand has an affordable Google certified device for you to buy.

These vehicles will go around various cities, allowing people to get a hands on with the Android One devices.

What this means?

Android One is advantageous for the first time Android users and it is evident that both Google and its partners are looking to reach out to the 'next billion' users, who are all going to come from the tier II and tier III cities. If you've been following the Android smartphone market, you will be hard pressed to find a reason to choose an Android One smartphone over a Moto E (unless you the Rs. 600 difference makes a big difference to you). The reach for these smartphones is much higher, because they are inexpensive not without the advertising campaigns, but rather, despite them. Google is making efforts to take them to consumers and make them aware about them.
